Biggar Library Recommends Panenka by Rónán Hession.
His name was Joseph, but for years they had called him Panenka, a name that was his sadness and his story. Following a mistake early in his football career, now 50 yr old Panenka has been stuck with the name ever since.
Panenka explores themes of second chances, connection, and finding beauty in everyday life. We get to spend time with a few different characters, enjoying their day-to-day life and gently unfolding their relationships.
It’s a warm, tender book, full of relatable characters, small meaningful gestures, and beautiful writing. I really loved reading it, I felt sad when it ended - I missed the characters.
Recommended by Lorraine. Phone 01899222060 or email biggar@library.s-lanark.org.uk.
