first time seeing the striped eel catfish irl THEY ARE SO CUTE (and they sting you with a painful venom so please be extra nice to them)

i spent a lot of time watching the eels and a few children came to watch with me and they were like :( eww they look gross and i couldn't help but laugh (thankfully their parents thought my reaction to them was amusing)

BUT ALSO THEY ARE REALLY CUTE THE KIDS ARE OBJECTIVELY WRONG

garden eels hanging out as they do but there is an eel butt popping out of the substrate in the foreground on the left.

i've never seen a garden eel just...stick its butt out of the sand like that. i've seen a garden eel swim freely and then dig itself back into the sand but here... the butt is sticking out!!

i am fond of imagining them being consumed by fish too. this fish is so cute i love it very much
