Trust, but verify. Don't just believe me. Disagree with me? Great, let's discuss. I learn nothing in an echo chamber.

RFK Jr.โ€™s Prescription for Bird Flu on Farms: Let It Spread The health secretary has suggested allowing the virus to spread, so as to identify birds that may be immune. Such an experiment would be disastrous, scientists say.

I hope no one reading this is counting on being saved by this circus.

Table showing risk to general population is โ€œlowโ€, risk to US populations in contact with potentially infected animals or contaminated surfaces or fluids is โ€œmoderate to highโ€

I missed this, but the CDC updated the risk to people around poultry & dairy cows about a week ago. It is now Moderate to High, even though it's been that for 70 confirmed H5N1 cases now & more undetected.

Now is the time to offer stockpiled vaccines to people at risk.

I understand and agree.

However, here's my unsolicited opinion:

The community (use your definition) needs knowledgeable voices like yours to navigate what might well be a very difficult course.

It's your time and effort, I know, but someone needs to hear what you have to say.

Ignore the hate.

I have some experience in the food processing industry. The USDA folks in my facilities were dedicated and hardworking.

However, they can only find
- What they are looking for, and
- What they have the resources to find.

USDA staff and procedures are simply insufficient by magnitudes to find H5N1.

The Ed Yong quote highlighted by Mr. Deknatel is very insightful.

If the severity of H5N1 effect is high enough, the probability of occurrence becomes less important in your risk calculation.

If "IT" happens, it could be very, very bad.

That is why you need to prepare beyond masks and sanitizer.

Montana seeks to ban mRNA shots as vaccine hesitancy soars US health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a vaccine skeptic, and President Donald Trump has expressed concerns about links โ€” long debunked โ€” between vaccines and autism.

I saw an article earlier lauding the ability to produce mRNA H5N1 vaccines quickly - well, at least more quickly than egg-based vaccines.

This is a friendly reminder to avoid depending on the soothing words from the media. I'm afraid that there's always a catch.

Opinion | We Need Rapid Bird Flu Testing Now States should lead on promoting early diagnosis to reduce transmission

We currently have no credible Early Warning System for an H5N1 pandemic. The federal government will not provide one. Some states may, but your state probably won't.

Widely available rapid testing could help fill that gap.

Do you think GSK has 500k doses in stock?

Is this a 2-dose vaccine?

Is it a traditional egg-grown vaccine or mRNA?

How long will it take GSK to ramp up and produce 500,000 doses?

Just a few questions...

I read the cat paper, others are guesses.
1. Cats get & die from H5N1
2. Shit ton of H5N1 in wastewater
3. Infected & undetected vets
