At golds event i heard a few people exclaim “oh so weve been shooting our selves in the foot this whole time and we could have had this?” Or something to that tune

I think continuing to show people what its like when we optimize, make changes to our avatars, giving them amazing experiences that make them want that, it has an effect and were beginning to see that. We just have to give them things that make them want it

Like at @acchosen.xyz ‘s dev hell, telling people that they would look better if they made those changes, at the first show we saw like 8 people hop out to make the change to minim brightness zero and hop back in and go “oh shit yeah”

Ive seen social pressure push people to begin to at least set minimum brightness to zero and update to light volumes. It won’t get everyone, but i think its worth being annoying about

I understand these points, we went black maybe 3 times for a total of around 6 seconds across a two hour show, i understand irl theres some ambience and theres headset issues. But the effect of everyone disappearing for a moment to return with full bright had a huge emotional impact, worth it

I do think good lighting is sorely under-represented

Avatars tend to compensate for bad world lighting... but then look bad in worlds with good lighting!!

No remark against wearing the shader you want, but don't author for bad worlds, author for good ones like this. Stop adding min brightness!

Light volumes is one click, just update your poiyomi or little toon and thats all you have to do

we just need to tell our friends to turn their minimum brightness on their avatars to zero, optimize our avatars, and use light volumes in worlds

This tech loses normal, loses cutouts, and imposters are giant billboarded planes that obstruct views and are hard to hunt down because of that. Its definitely not the end all be all tech. But it was a fun experiment in showing what we could have if anyone cared

Theres tons of caveats to it. Instead i think we should just spread the word on minimum brightness setting to zero, using light volumes, and optimizing out avis

Im going to rave about this event so much, thank you all for attending, thank you @okgold.ca for making a beautiful experience and trusting me to light it all. This event showed we could show all avatars and have good frames and have our events look amazing. It is possible

You really did manage to capture THE moment

This world overrides your shader, but what if when you went to an event that asked you to use a specific shader. What if we had this but we all looked hot af. What if we leaned more into immersion. What if we did this for each other. What if we cared to better optimized ourselves for each other

This is what i mean when i was yelling about setting minimum brightness to zero. Look at how immersive this is. The video goes dark because i turned off the lights in the club. No glowing avatars, just everyone’s avatars being lit by the world, everyone wearing the same shader
