Big wins for Covalen members of the Digital and Techworkers Alliance (DATA) 💪

Despite the bosses saying no, they’ve secured a pay increase and elected their first health and safety reps, a vital step in ensuring safer, fairer working conditions.

We stand in solidarity with Verdi and urge all employers of content moderators to engage transparently through collective bargaining. It is essential that these employers invest in their workforce, value their contributions and honour their dignity.

These roles cannot simply be replaced by AI, and it is time for employers like TikTok to show leadership by negotiating with unions to explore every alternative before resorting to layoffs.

These proposed cuts reflect a troubling trend in big tech to prioritise immediate profits at the expense of employee wellbeing and livelihoods. Through our own membership, DATACWU has witnessed the gruelling, yet invaluable work content moderators do to keep social media safe.
