i do not think a guy who oopsie-daisies himself into full tilt nazi shit on a shockingly regular basis as a nobody will somehow develop better judgment when he's one of only 100 US senators and surrounded by significantly more people who want his ear

β€œwhether America is seen as a liberator for bombing a girls school or not” type discourse has happened yearly every year of my life and I’ll be honest I want them all in jail, Dems or republicans, I don’t care, get them gone

I continue to be fascinated by the phenomenon whereby an expert engages with any of the LLMs on their field of expertise and is instantly horrified by the wrong answers, and then goes on to use it for things they are not experts in as though it won’t be just as bad for those.

I’d suggest Stanford should return to its roots in horse breeding, but I fear they’re already doing the worst possible version of that

I hope you’re right, but I’ve been pretty impressed (derogatory) by how quickly out-of-state dem pundits have rallied behind him

Even if he’s a good Senator his election will tell us a lot about what is and isn’t a dealbreaker for the average democrat

Every one of these guys sounds like the weed dealer who made you sit there and hold his iguana and watch a VHS copy of faces of death before selling you an eighth that was half oregano in 1997.

I should’ve been clearer. I meant a leap in logic. The difference between computing and thinking is qualitative not quantitative, particularly w/r/t to the relationship between thought and language

Describable doesn’t equal cognizable, and the leap from description and prediction to cognition and meta cognition is huge

one reset I'd personally appreciate: behind the insistence that we must offer the electorate a little bigotry is the idea that commoners are more bigoted than the richer and more educated, who can be appealed to with high minded policy. but then you Ctrl+F "phrenology" in the Epstein files

I realize this is beside the point, but for people pointing out Chomsky and Pinker, the social sciences aren’t the humanities.

Of course, the humanities have plenty to answer for, but we don’t want to answer for linguists and cognitive scientists too!

I love reading up on conspiracy theories and have since I was a kid and I don’t think there’s a modern one based on less than lab leak. The entirety of the evidence is the lab being a half hour drive from the market. You can’t have lab leak without the market so this next evolution is even flimsier.
