This is predictable, many elected officials can't or are unwilling to face the reality of authoritarian politics where compromise is weaknesses, and truth, promises, and deals are only seen through the lens of strength and power.

That Pritzker press conference was... surreal, and I think marks a significant moment of escalation in the constitutional omni-crisis. This was the governor of a state saying plainly the Union itself is being torn apart and his state is being militarily invaded by an authoritarian regime.

The anti-government playbook has been used to underfund and understaff departments and then complain about how useless these departments are. The mass layoffs of federal workers will limit the ability to implement future programs for decades.

Things like this are normal and shouldn't be subject to discretionary cancellation of awarded contracts.

The underreported reason the government Can't move faster is that it simply doesn't have enough people to implement these programs legally.

Often, these grants operate on a reimbursement basis; it isn't reasonable for recipients to take dollars for something they have spent money on. Things like payrolls, construction, and planning cannot be spent before the costs are incurred, You usually don't repave roads in the winter.

I'm unsure how lawmakers in the minority would fight an Executive branch that doesn't believe in the rule of law.
