I am here to geek. ๐ค๐๐๏ธ๐บ๐ฝ๏ธ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ Star Wars, Wheel of Time, Silo, Dune, Marvel, DC, IwtV, ASoIaF, Wicked, Gothic lit., etc. โ bring on the scifi, horror, and fantasy! Please use ALT text.
Lol, I bet ๐

04.08.2025 14:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's actually such a warm, fuzzy (and genuinely funny) show!
04.08.2025 14:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Oh no, I'm so, so sorry. ๐๐ข๐ซ
I would say something very lighthearted like Abbott Elementary, or same but with more sci-fi and emotional heft like Murderbot.
#TheGildedAge s3 ep 7
- Thank the gods for Jack! ๐ (I hope there's much more Jack next week, lol.)
- I hate hating Phylicia Rashad ๐
- Russell mass-makeup next week, yes?
- I am immediately deeply suspicious of that historical society lady โ I think she's digging to try to expose Oscar ๐ฅบ
Signal boost!
Everyone should subscribe to @everyscififilm.bsky.social's podcast, Every single Sci-fi film ever* Absolutely fascinating. Listening to the H G Wells episode now and his legacy in 60's sci fi. The Godzilla episode is a cracker as well.
*almost.
I was worried it would be too kiddie, but it was a really solid film!

03.08.2025 22:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's actually upsetting to me that you missed all of this explicit and sub-text yet are coming at me in my own comments as if you think you are educating me on a book I have spent my lifetime studying and sorting through my feelings about.
I'm going to bow out here and wish you a good life.
I feel like you read a different book.
03.08.2025 22:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You and I read this very, very, very differently. I do know that my interpretation is widely shared, and I don't have the sense that this is really a safe space for me to discuss my complicated relationship with this book and the aspects I mention that I think you are missing. Best wishes. โ๏ธ
03.08.2025 22:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0#KPopDemonHunters is a legit good movie about accepting your weaknesses, trusting others to love you anyway, and fighting to be better.
Surprisingly sophisticated for a pre-teen film. I'm not really into bubblegum (er, "soda") pop โ but I gotta admit some of the songs got me. ๐ฅน
I also wouldn't call him good for the time (in that aspect), personally, when there were also writers like Mary Shelly and Jane Austen 80 years earlier, not to mention his male contemporaries like George Gissing ๐ค
03.08.2025 20:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Yes, very romancey, and surprisingly silly, lol. But omg the costumes ๐
03.08.2025 20:24 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I won't defend Luc Besson, but I will strongly object to any defense of Bram Stoker on that front. It's a good book that's been a favorite of mine throughout my life, but no, he does NOT write women well.
03.08.2025 20:22 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's the film that handled that aspect of the story best. This one hits some similar notes there, but in a much frothier way.
03.08.2025 20:20 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I just re-read Dracula last year, and I was disturbed how much Mina was expected to stay in her place. (Last year's Nosferatu addressed that well.) And Lucy in the book is treated appallingly, 'slut-shamed' throughout. Fridged. Not to mention Dracula's brides, etc.

Heartfelt chaos FTW ๐
So the new podcast is up. Learn about the shenanigans behind this 1960 East German-Polish production that has so many chefs spoiling the script that Stanislaw Lem withdrew his name from the "trashy screenplay". ๐
Diverse casting, communist visions of Utopia and a dire Cold War warning.
Achtung! ๐
Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate stand side by side in pink lighting, Jenny Slate with dark lipstick and jewelry like she's ready for a club night and Michelle Williams dressed casually. They have their heads together talking about something off screen, Williams shielding her face like she's hiding. They look intent but lightly amused.
#DyingForSex is v. good (career bests for Michelle Williams & Jenny Slate) โ but watching the end / starting my Sunday a blubbering mess maybe wasn't my best decision. ๐ญ
Really, though: it's super-funny, too. I want to emphasize that. ๐ And I learned a lot about a sexual world that's not my own.

...maybe I need to look into this ๐ค
I'm ignoring leaks, etc., this time and will ignore most trailers. Marvel gives away too much.
03.08.2025 09:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes, I definitely plan to! I went through a phase as a teenager when I was hyperfixated on that period of Hawaiian history (the US takeover), so I'm very excited to see it on screen
I'm so glad they filmed it in the Hawaiian language!
Yeah, I think about that Cuban Missile Crisis moment in our real history a lot...
Two people on two sides disobeying orders on a hunch, and saving our world
I think they'll still do a lot of flashbacks, plus Sterling went outside
I was worried it might have similarities with what I know is coming in Silo S3, but I'm relieved it's gone a very different direction
Great TV! I was worried I knew the twist, and was relieved there was no twist โ it's just about how to handle the end of the world
