‘Exclusive’: things that have been happening since the dawn of time. I’m surprise the proportion isn’t more. It’s been 100% in the 9 schools I’ve worked in.

Surely there are no retired public sector workers in their mid-fifties anymore? More likely ‘want to be retired but can’t afford to due to having to pay for uni fees and care homes’

I just assumed they didn’t exist, although we didn’t have the internet then to search for one.

I remember moving to a rented flat that had a mixer tap over the bath and I was furious I hadn’t realised I wouldn’t be able to use one of these before I agreed to move in.

I used to work in a Catholic school where at the end of each day we said a prayer with our classes before we went home. “Dear Lord, thank you for our many blessings today. Help us strive for the best in ourselves, always.”
It was a lovely end to the day. It was nice to read this and be reminded.

Frankly, it’s amazing that schools work at all.

Every day, hundreds of pupils stream through the gates and a vast, invisible system whirs into motion: teaching, safeguarding, meals, attendance, support, behaviour, communication, enrichment and care.

A short thread about why schools are miracles:

Yes, there’s a company who organise Chinese trips to UK schools, and they invited us to a return visit as a thank you for hosting over the past couple of years.

Back in the last century, when GCSEs were brand new, we were encouraged to choose just one science! I chose Chemistry. I didn’t choose physics because the teacher was a bit pervy. Biology wouldn’t have crossed my mind. Wish I’d done all three!

With this and the possible removal of EBacc, I feel there’s a significant curriculum model overhaul incoming.

…International flights, 4* hotels in Beijing, Hai’an, Nantong and Shanghai, all food (which was incredible), bullet train/coach and all attractions including Forbidden City and Great Wall. We visited six schools who were incredible hosts. Looking forward to hosting them on the return visits (2/2).

Have to say the school trip to China was a huge success. 24 year 11’s, 4 teachers. I wasn’t convinced when we were told we could keep the price less than £1500 per student (£500 pupil premium) but we did and for that we got… (1/2)

That was like the error we made by going to Sri Lanka over Easter. 3 days of no alcohol allowed - New Moon, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
