This isnโt great news with YoY worldwide sales decline. China is an overcapacity EV market and itโs a knife fight to 0% margin against BYD and others that have scale. THIS is why heโs desperate for robotaxi and ClownBot hype.

Any time I hear the question,
โWhat private company do you wish was public?โ
My answer is โLEGOโ.
This is why. (This is this yearโs Christmas haul at our house. Importantly, none of these sets are for the kids).
On what is surely my final appearance on Motley Fool Money for 2024 host Ricky Mulvey let me prattle on about Star Wars, talked a little JWN privatization, and closed it out with covered call considerations.
Itโs a holiday grab bag - Enjoy!

Back on Motley Fool Money again last week (just noticed it published) - this time on the "B" segment to finally get around to talking about AerCap Holdings (NYSE: AER).

Iโm a staunch Garth Turner fan.
I find him unwavering in desire to see individuals make sound financial choices.
I think him unafraid of speaking his mind even if it costs him (see his political career).
I encourage adding him to your daily reading. Start here.

This year we went to Turkish Flame in Kitchener, ON. This was lunch. I may qualify as โlegally deadโ now.
Since weโre apparently going to do this, letโs do so as soon as possible. I look forward to the incoming administrationโs attempt to blame Biden/Harris for the $5-to-$6/gal gas prices a year from now.

โฆIโm genuinely surprised more people donโt consider them when replacing older vehicles. Day-to-day driving of 80km or less, and theyโre no different than full BEVโs.
As well, thereโs no long-range driving range anxiety. (Well, no more than with a standard ICE vehicle).

Honestly, sheโs gonna have to NOT charge for a few days so as to burn off the remaining gas before it โgoes bad.โ
With her former car she was spending about $250-$275 per month in gas
I maintain that PHEVโs are โcheat codesโโฆ
7/8
The wifeโs PHEV (Toyota) purchased in late July 2024 still has 2/3โs of the original tank of gas purchased with the car nearly 6,300km later. On her regular commute (about 70-to-80 km per day, depending on which route she takes to/from work; traffic dependent) the engine never comes on.
6/8
This car when the battery is fully depleted runs as a regular hybrid with mileage in the 7.5-8.0 L/100 km range. At current gas prices, that compares to cost per 100km around $11.25-to-$12.00 today for โhybrid onlyโ travel.
5/8
But most charging for this car is done during the day when sun is up so as to use on-the-run generated energy rather than sending it to city and then buying back later/at night. Any excess power is sold back to city at that same $0.11/kWh rate).
4/8
If we WERE spending on electricity to charge this car, city hydro rates are $0.11/kWh. So, at 19.2kWh/100km, that would be $2.11/100 km.
3/8
We installed solar panels on the house that makes roughly as much power in a year as the house uses (including regular charging for two PHEVโs) - just over 10 MW annually. So basically most of the ongoing cost of charging the cars was deployed as โcapital expenditureโ in 2019.

Drive update after refilling tank on my Outlander PHEV for the first time since late June/early July (honestly donโt remember).
1.1 L/100km is ~214 mpg
