Meet the Pecan Ball: Pittsburgh’s Most Iconic 3-Ingredient Dessert This hidden gem is so easy to make at home.

It suddenly occurred to me what a "Pittsburgh Sundae" probably is. The Pecan Ball was at first popular here at Le Mont restaurant. Great view of the city and still popular. A round ball of vanilla ice cream, rolled in pecans, covered in chocolate or caramel sauce.

I could not love that more! Traditions like that are so great. My daughter's 23 now, but from the time she was little, when we part she says, "Ciao!" and I reply, "Ciao, bella!" I treasure every time.

Cool menu! Curious about a couple of things. What's a "Nabisco Special"? If it's 25¢ for a packet of saltines, I'd ask for the manager. And on the cover, in "Restaurant & Soda Bar." As a font nerd, one of those A's is not like the other. Wait. Maybe it's code! Look for it in the next WWII drama.

Cereals "with cream." That's how my grandma used to serve it. Now that's livin'!

Yes! The original restaurant in the Strip District (where the produce terminals were) it's still there and they have other locations. The one in the Strip is my fave because it's the OG, waitresses call you "hun," and you get eye rolls if you order your sandwich without coleslaw or fries.

Ha! Oh yes. The fries-on-sandwiches thing started here in the early '30s at a restaurant called Primanti Bros. They wanted to give truck drivers and other workers a way to have a sandwich, cole slaw, and fries but eat it with one hand while they got back on the road. A tradition was born.

That one stumped me. Here, when it comes to food, "Pittsburgh style" usually means with fries on it (sandwiches, salads, etc.). But I'm hoping that's not the case with a sundae!

Funny you said that. When I looked at the menu I was going to mention that to you! I also spotted banana splits on there, which were invented in nearby Latrobe, PA in the early 1900s. (Banana split, Arnold Palmer, Mr. Rogers - all born in Latrobe.)
