And he was right!

Airplane is not a deadbeat dad. He did his best by his son, given his circumstances. His son just wanted something other than what Airplane could give, and did not appreciate what he DID give.

Bingzu may think he's the OG, but he was still, I think, born of ✈️'s raw inspiration.

Fans (and Shen Yuan): Oh, Bingzu was just soooo lonely and all he wanted was a happy ending but when he put his trust in Airplane he let him down~

Airplane, who wrote a novel AND lived another doing his best, but at no point did Bingzu explain his wants or appreciate the outcome: My unfilial son...

Bingzu: Maybe if you're IN the story, it will be high enough stakes so you'll do better?

Shang Qinghua: WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?!

*Years pass, SQH still Doesn't Get It, Bingzu relents & offers to send him home*

Shang Qinghua: Fuck that, Daddy has earned his fun.

Bingzu: No. Not like that.

Still giggling about this...

Bingzu: I just want... Connections...

Xiang Fei: *writes 20 million words of adventures and porn in which Luo Binghe is widely loved AND gets revenge on anyone who doesn't*

Bingzu: No. Not like that.

...does she know that there are fleece lined flesh toned tights that can be worn under both skirt and leg warmers so that she can have the look WITHOUT goosebumps?

Because those are absolutely a thing here in Korea, I see them all the time in actual winter (which it is not yet).

I feel that if they ever met, Lan Zhan would be entirely immune to Shen Yuan's wifebeam, and that Shen Yuan would find this total lack of attraction or even interest (that he doesn't want, naturally, because he could never reciprocate!) obscurely but increasingly frustrating.

Feeling brief nostalgia for that time on the bird app when everyone was cooking up wild "straight boy Wei Ying" plots to torment Lan Zhan with.

And then I remembered Shen Yuan, who is like that except if it were somehow simultaneously deadly serious and transparently obvious the entire time.

Still, why would I give out information that would vary depending on the specifics of what you're working with? Measuring a recipe is a sucker's bet! I didn't measure when I cooked it, either. I did follow a method, for which the correct amount of anything is just "an unstinting enough."

When the discord asks for the recipe and I belatedly realize that what I gave them was instructions but not a single fixed measurement or cooking time for any of the ingredients...

I fully believe that following the instructions as written will produce a delicious result, but so did medieval cooks.

Here in Korea, they sell giant jars of fruit teas. The jars are an incredibly useful size, and they even do have glass grips, BUT they are very difficult to grip or open on bad pain days because their size requires a surprising amount of finger strength and puts a lot of strain on the joints.

I WANT to like Crowd Control, but the editing on it is so clipped there's no room for the jokes to breathe or flow. I'm glad everyone in the crowd seems to be having fun, but I sure don't feel like I'm getting to experience any myself. So much of comedy is good timing, and this editing has none.

Most ordinary folx not trapped in the twisted machinations of publishing/bookselling DON'T KNOW THIS: a book MUST sell 3 times off the shelf to remain there. If not, it gets sent back.

Writers literally get ❌❌❌

Readers: if you're on the fence, buy theπŸ“—! Esp if it's a local/new/not famous author

demisexual is just the funniest sexuality. jumpscare attraction. attraction that just shows up behind you suddenly in the middle of the woods. where did this come from? no clue. it's just there now. but only in certain circumstances.

That said, this book still contains a whole lot of something I do not want to accommodate with space in my brain, and it makes every page a damn minefield.

An excerpt from Mark Twain's Pudd'nhead Wilson, reading, "There are three infallible ways of pleasing an author, and the three form a rising scale of compliment: 1, to tell him you have read one of his books; 2, to tell him you have read all of his books; 3, to ask him to let you read the manuscript of his forthcoming book. No. 1 admits you to his respect; No. 2 admits you to his admiration; No. 3 carries you clear into his heart."

From my course reading today...

Mark Twain is never fully comfortable to read, nor should it be comfortable to read some of this and that is very much part of the point, but sometimes he is nonetheless very funny and very true.

I dunno. I enjoy the fun, I enjoy that others enjoy the fun, but I still do not enjoy One True Wayism in any form it takes, and unfortunately sometimes that vibe shows up when people are busy queering and/or transing ALL the characters, with a vehemence I find deeply uncomfortable.

It is cool and fun!

It is also, occasionally, just a little irksome to me, personally. We're all queer here, and that is glorious, but there's still a reason the word I use is queer. If EVERYONE is like that in the world of a fic, it feels, at times, a bit invalidating. The world SHOULD be diverse!

Any and every time Shen Yuan attributes a vision, emotion, or inclination to a hypothetical outsider, what he means (but doesn't admit he means) is that he is absolutely doing that exact thing BUT he wants whatever batshit thing he is doing to be Normal and Correct.

All this to say: writing fanfiction is about a PROCESS, not a product, and that process is inherently analytical, interpretative, and transformative.

We engage in that process not to produce an end product, but because the process itself, and sharing in it with our communities, brings us joy.

22.11.2025 02:42 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Fanfic writers are fully engaged in writing their own what-ifs. Yes, the common source work is a helpful reference point, but by the time we're writing fic, it's clearly something new. We have a common story as origin the same way people have a bible as "origin" for a zillion different religions.

22.11.2025 02:42 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I feel like in some ways, fanfiction can be a similar exercise for writers. Instead of analyzing brush strokes, composition, color mixing, texture, etc. and figuring out how to adapt painting techniques for them, we're analyzing tone, plot, characterization, etc. But we're a LOT more transformative.

22.11.2025 02:42 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Back in the day, artists used to go study the paintings of earlier artists and make copies of them while learning to paint. This was not plagiarism, because the PROCESS of the copying was the point and it was inherently interpretative, AND because they didn't pretend their work was original.

anyway the thing about fanfic is that it's not essentially bad or good; it's essentially amateur. some people are absolutely out there writing award-worthy prose (some fic writers ARE award-winning writers IRL!), but that's not the point. the point is that we're all telling campfire stories. it's a community, and it's a way to spend some more time in the worlds and stories that we love.

I want art thats made by people, because i want to connect with people. I don't care if that art is made for personal reasons or for a coca cola commercial, i want to see art and think about the person who made it. How they got here. why they became an artist. What inspires them.
idk.
