one thing about this Chris Fleming profile I forgot to mention: it contains an embedded out-of-focus video of an iPod playing a recording of his high school jazz band drum solo, which he convinced a band teacher to let him do despite never before playing drums

This is a terrific read on one of the most original voices in comedy right now. If we mourn WBD getting swallowed up into a sweaty conglomerate for freaks, we may as well celebrate that Fleming has an HBO special

omedian Chris Fleming arrives at my hotel in an absurdly tiny seafoam-green car, an object that looks more like a gag gift than a street-legal vehicle. The car is a Nissan Figaro, an obscure 1950s-styled convertible with chrome detailing, tiny round headlights, and a right-side steering wheel. Fleming is six-foot-two, and when he sits in the driverβs seat, his knees fold up nearly to his chest. The top of his voluminous curly hair sticks over the top of the Figaroβs roof frame. He looks like heβs driven straight off the pages of Richard Scarryβs Busytown and onto the streets of Pasadena; he is Lowly Worm bopping around town in an apple.
βThis is just like Seinfeld doing Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,β I point out to Fleming as we set off for a drive around his favorite spots in Pasadena. βFuck!β Fleming yells, laughing but also sincerely horrified. βThatβs a huge problem if thatβs what itβs giving off. Damnit!β Thatβs the price of a car thatβs screaming to be noticed. People notice it then want to understand it. They want to get in it at the gas station. They want to meet the owner and see how he fits inside. I ask Fleming if he cares about cars generally. Is this a hobby? βOh God, no. No, this is pure aesthetic,β he says. He loves his Figaro for its strangeness, for the surprise of turning a corner and seeing an impractical footnote in the history of car manufacturing driven by a flamingo-like person in enormous, bug-eyed sunglasses. But heβs less comfortable with the invitation of it β the way it prompts the question, What kind of a person would be driving around in that car? He would prefer to remain alien. βItβs easier to be seen as an entity,β he says.
i'm a car expert now

one way of thinking about a profile is, who are the secondaries? who loves to yell about this person?
in this case i had too many to even fit in the piece; see if you can tell which one i personally am most proud of
