I watch old movies and play old video games for fun. I make overly-expensive applications talk to one another for money. My vibes-based metaphysics > your vibes-based metaphysics.

That's it. I've made a decision. When I finish reading Reflections on the Revolution in France by Burke, which I'm low-key hating, I'm going to reward myself with a reread of Moby Dick before moving on to Democracy in America.

I had completely forgotten this. I need to read Moby Dick again. Such a great book.

Perfect example. This is definitely a horror movie. It's also several other genres.

Is Rosemary's Baby a horror movie?
Is Hereditary a horror movie?
Is Daughters of Darkness a horror movie?
Is Lighthouse a horror movie?
Yes...gatekeeping genres to keep out 'good' or 'artistic' movies is just stupid.

Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000‑year‑old currency The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.

This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

No, it just juxtaposes progressive reformers with Babylonian soldiers decapitating people, because they were both equally 'intolerant'.

I’m not coming to this take out of the blue. Here is my 1/2 star review from two years ago.

You know you're in the weeds and off the path when you run across a thread where you see someone defending DW Griffith's Intolerance in the comments. That film is shit. #filmsky

It is kind of crazy that 3 Idiots (2009) never made the 1001 Movies to See Before You Die list. Or any Bollywood movie as far as I’m aware.

My summary of the Apu trilogy:
Pather Panchali: It sucks being poor in rural India.
Aparajito: It sucks being poor in urban India.
Apur Sansar: it sucks being a woman in India.

This is a spectacularly bad take. For those who are very confident that my TI-84 isn’t conscious, explain how human consciousness works. It’s that vacuous.

Tim was a comedian with a former cocaine addiction. He just fell into acting.

Remember when all of the boat traffic in the Middle East was being help up by one boat stuck sideways in a canal? Good times. I miss that being the thing screwing up international shipping, and not kids dying.

...I'm pretty loathe to take anything economists predict seriously. I've been burned by that so many times in my adult life now, even in the last year.

nyt website currently resembles one of those mock covers people made before 2016 election: economy floundering, war in the middle east, scandal-plagued cabinet sec, brazen corruption....

I won't be watching tonight because I'm going to be at my local rep cinema watching Parasite (2019). I think @therealjoebob123.bsky.social is probably okay with that. The rest of you have no excuse. #filmsky

From Joe Bob Briggs:
β€œNumero Uno: My health is fine. I’m spry as fuck.

Numero Two-oh: Tonight is the last regular episode of The Last Drive-In.

Numero Three-oh: Shudder has commissioned four specials.

Numero Four-oh: None of this was my decision. We ain’t done.”

there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).

the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.

Running for Congress on a platform of sneaking into Polymarket HQ and unplugging all their stuff. Overflow crowds at a local Knights of Columbus hall roar with delight as I promise to pour Florida's Natural Grapefruit Juice (with pulp) into the USB-C port of every computer in the damn place.

Don’t be sad it ended. Be happy it happened.

I’m so happy I found Joe Bob, Darcy, the Last Drive-In crew and the entire Mutant Family.

Y’all helped get me through chemotherapy, the pandemic and never failed to put a smile on my face.

The drive-in will NEVER die.

I have a watchlist that I'm very slowly working my way through. It is a combination of every version of the 1001 Movies to See Before You Die book. My local rep cinema has four films from my list showing this month.
Parasite (2019)
Close-Up (1990)
The Battle of Algiers (1966)
The Vanishing (1988)
