Abusers erode their partner's identity and sense of self through 'death by a thousand cuts'. Each 'cut' seems small, but when repeated again and again, the resulting emotional wounds are huge. #emotionalabuse

There's a point in our trauma recovery we realize-- much to our chagrin (my chagrin, anyway, when I realized this)-- that avoidance actually makes us feel more fearful than safe.
That happens w/ every drug of abuse, including avoidance-- the juice stops being worth the squeeze.
During my controlling marriage, I would thank my abusive husband for allowing me to go places or do things, which were my right to do as an autonomous human being, with or without permission.

If you’re questioning whether it’s abuse, remember: violence starts long before a fist is raised. Recognize the signs and know you deserve better. #BreakTheCycle
