Last weekend when it was freezing out we thought it was odd to see folks wearing shorts on the trail (pictured). But today the weather iw nice and warm and we're tempted to do the same! We hope you enjoy the trail this weekend. Just watch out for icy patches.

With the upcoming winter storm, expect the trail to be flooded and possibly covered with debris at and after 3 AM and 3:30 PM Monday. Low-lying locations may include Cedar Grove, PJP2, Finnegan Park, Tenean Beach and Morrissey Blvd at Dorchester Bay.

Conditions on the Neponset Trail in Milton and Dorchester - MassDCR has plowed much of the trail but there remain icy spots.

Thanks so much to the Neponset River Watershed Association, the Quincy Climate Action Network, and the Thomas Crane Public Library for hosting such a great screening and discussion of Inundation District.

The king tide plus storm surge looked to be about 12 ft, flooding Tenean Beach and Boston Bowl in Dorchester, but coming up just short of the Neponset Trail at Cedar Grove

MBTA says: "Mattapan Line service will likely be suspended [on Monday, Jan. 26] and replaced with shuttle buses as snow conditions worsen to accommodate expected accumulated snowfall and to protect the nearly 80-year-old trolleys from potential damage."

2025 has been a great year for the Neponset River Greenway with the opening of the Dorchester trail extension and lots of great events and maintenance along the trail! We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate an extension in Mattapan in the new year and push for additional connections. Happy new year!

We partnered with other organizations like @bikeboston.bsky.social @massbike.bsky.social and @streetsboston.bsky.social to ensure the Neponset Trail was included on the snow plowing list along with better known trails like the Southwest Corridor and Dr Paul Dudley White (Charles River) paths.

DCR has a policy to plow snow off key shared-use paths within 24 hours of a storm so people can get to important destinations like train stations and businesses.
