#WriteCBC task from @evswrites.bsky.social: Your protagonist has answered an advert to be a lodger. They haven’t met the owner, but they've been sent a key. When they open the front door, they get a strong sense of the homeowner. How does the house evoke the owner? What can they see, smell or hear?

The door judders, bouncing back. Is this a joke? Metal chinks, rubber squeaks, tumbling the other side. Who leaves a bike there? My shoulders ache with the tight squeeze, and my tights snag on spokes. Fumes of well-worn trainers assault my nose. Gross. So, they’re a fitness freak. Great. #WriteCBC

Seconds to react. Ella scrambled for the iron at the fireplace. Fighting frost. Burning embers hooked, she swung it violently at the door. Flames turned the deadly chill to hissing steam. Iced screams scratched then burned. The mist enveloped them. The postcard crumpled to ash.
