I’m safe where I am, I have amazing supervisors and colleagues. It’s just hard.
and sorry I think it’s the alcohol talking and maybe all of this should have gone to my diary instead but well, fuck it for tonight.

I have lost so much of my concentration and work abilities. This emotional burn-out has crushed me. I have had to scrap so much from this project, even though it was so exciting to do.
But I still fight, for my independence, to finish my paper, because I still believe I have things to bring.

I lost funding because I didn’t do things in time, I have lost opportunities to do other missions abroad because the mere thought of having to convince my husband drained me. I have been thrown from a paper bc I couldn’t give my part in a timely manner. I’m so ashamed of where I am. It was my dream.

I was working with my therapist about my so-called "workaholism", but all sessions ended up with me talking about how my husband was smothering me and I didn’t have energy to care for myself. I tried to learn how to set boundaries, but it went a terrifying way.

I realized that all difficulties I’ve had in this PhD were never because of the PhD itself, but because of my husband interfering in everything, and missions particularly because it meant I was going to be away and he couldn’t handle it, so he always found excuses to make everything complicated.

I started clocking my work hours in an app and realized I was never able to do more than 5h a day, and many days less.
While everybody still told me that I worked too much. I realized I couldn’t trust anybody, and my husband was no longer my ally in this project.

He persuaded me I was working too much and putting my health in peril, nobody helped me realize I was fin because it’s the common stereotype that PhD students work too much.
In parallel, he was so demanding of my time I ended up in emotional burn-out and didn’t show up to work for a month.

When I started my PhD, I was excited to narrate my story of a young researcher with science stories, adventures, maybe some failures, maybe even some academia political trouble...!
I didn’t expect my PhD would only end up as a lesson on how I let my husband control my life and ruin my PhD.
Sad :(

Hehehe ce papillon s’appelle le Double Zéro et son nom scientifique c’est Dicycla oo ce qui veut littéralement dire "double cercle + oo" ce qui est parfaitement parfait
(référence aux deux cercles sur les ailes)
On s’amuse bien hein quand on donne des noms aux espèces

J'ai cité que j'essayais de ramasser des plumes de corvidés avant les conventions pour pouvoir les montrer 👀

Parler à des publics qui ne se seraient pas forcément intéressés à la science par le paléoart, c'est mon cheval de bataille. Et j'espère que j'aurai réussi à en inspirer par la même occasion.

Y avait du peuple à la conférence sur "Comment les Chicken Wings vulgarisent grâce à l'art" !
C'est la première fois que je peux présenter ce projet dans un contexte académique, au sein du MNHN et face à des chercheurs. C'était important pour moi, ce moment de validation par mes pairs 🙂‍↕️
