I'm not going to cancel my Adobe subscription just yet, but I can certainly imagine LOTS of other independant creatives with less budget opting to do so. It's the first REAL threat to Adobe in a long time, and that is a good thing.

And, regardless of what you think of the actual software, Affinity being free and combating Adobe's scubscription model is a GOOD thing for creatives and creative industry. What will happen? I can't predict. I played with the new version of Affinity this weekend, and it's solid.

The unfortunate side effect is now Adobe is a near monopoly in creative software. The only real outlier being Figma (but that's a different story). They NEED competiton.

Adobe won that battle, not only through making a better product than the others but also through some bad decisions by competitors (Quark being extremely late to adapt Express to Mac OS X prompted mass migration to Adobe InDesign). Point being, through process only Adobe now remains.

A lot of talk around Adobe & Canva Affinity recently. Here's my 2 cents. A lot of us old creatives grew up in a time of competition between design apps (Quark, Corel, Macromedia, Omni). Competition was good. It forced the cream to rise to the top and acted as bulwark against a single walled-garden.

I'm leaning towards Windows 11. I actually really like Microsoft's clean UI, but it's cluttered up with bloat by default. Luckily you can get rid all of that with the Chris Titus Windows Utility for a very clean stock install youtu.be/0PA1wgdMeeI?...

I tried Linux (Zorin OS). I like the clean UI, but there are just too may apps that I NEED that aren't available. So that's a no-go. The options are now stick with Mac (and revert to Sequoia) or switch to Windows 11.

Apple F'ed-up with OS 26. Liquid Glass is hienous. I'm already in the process of switching back to Android. What to do about desktop remains the big question.

After living with Apple's new UI for almost a month, it's... fine, I guess? I've got used to it. It's still not "good". But weighing it against the hassle of switching platforms, I'm resigned to staying on apple. I'd rather have everything work and be slightly ugly than the alternative.

I figured out why I hate Liquid Glass so much. It looks like a kid who’s using Photoshop for the first time, discovered the Bevel & Emboss filter, and has applied it to EVERYTHING. It’s childish, and immature.
