I understand that, by being geographically so far removed, your perception of current affairs is based on abstractions, black & white takes, and limited education & media you have access to.
Half of the population of GCC countries are expats of dozens of countries that have nothing to do with this.
Most of these are what they call "n*rco-blockages"; basically they take cars, trucks, buses, and burn them to block the roads.

When things like these happen,
- people who learnt n*rco culture from TV series are like "yayy!"
- Mexicans are like "uh oh π"

lol, earlier today B asked me if I wanted coffee (made with his sweet little hands) and I told him "you know what? let's go buy one". It took us longer to get ready and put all the warm clothes on that the time it took to walk to the coffee shop, but it was worth it haha

Start small. Do what you CAN.
Everybody wants to change the world, but gets paralyzed in the face of everyday acts of common injustice.
Your small action can represent a big change in someone else's life. We did not reach this point overnight.
Start small. Do what you can π€
We were planning to go see the Northern Lights at some point this winter, but life happened (mostly good things...) and we had to change our plans, but tonight we didn't have to travel to see them; they came to us β¨π₯Ή

B: would you volunteer to go to Mars (and never come back)?
Me: years ago, I would have said yes, but not anymore.
B: oh, why did you change your mind?
Me: have you seen the type of people who want to go to Mars? Being stuck with them in another planet? Absolutely not π

They say the job market is gone.
They say learning to code is pointless.
I donβt buy it.

This narrative also completely ignores the fact that having your own children is only one of the multiple ways in which humans can take care of each other.
Aging parents, a partner or a sibling with a serious illness, helping raise other people's children, etc. Tasks usually assigned to women :)
Even if all those things were true, it makes it sound like women who chose not to become mothers somehow cheated on life, instead of, you know, making a choice.
According to her and other young moms, it doesn't stop there: "you ONLY have one child and complain? cute, try having 2 (or 3, or n...)"
my sister (who has a kid) and I often joke about the way society diminishes women's accomplishments when they opt out of motherhood.
- got a promotion? "she has extra time for work!"
- have a stable relationship? "hehe... wait 'till you have kids"
- exhausted? "hah! try saying that to a mother"
1. Woman requests org to delete awful picture of her.
2. Org uses said picture for promotional material.
Great stuff.
The price I pay for being a little shit complaining about things here & there π
