I may not be doing videos anymore, but I still wanted to do something like this, and since I'm fairly certain I'm not gonna have time to play through any more new 2024 games before year's end, I felt I could do this now.

achievements earned by lucca from Pacific Drive. there are too many to describe in alt text, but 49 were unlocked, and they are colorful, unique, diverse, artistically sytlized like road trip stickers / bumper stickers. they're glorious.

second image is a screengrab of achievements from helldivers 2, which are all 3 colors, grey, dark grey, and yellow. and the iconography is very generic. they're readable, but not particularly fun to look at or collect.

Ok, i have to brag on my friend @angeloslh.bsky.social who is such a talented UI artist and designer!

Look at her Steam Achievement Icons for Pacific Drive, and then compare them with other popular game this year.

Look at the colors, the creativity, the expressiveness! She absolutely crushed it.

I actually love how both pictures compliment their respective games honestly, Pacific Drive is wild and goofy in a fun way and the achievement icons reflect that so well. Then Helldivers 2 has that military simplicity and uniformity. Shit's cool!

I low key don't enjoy achievements as a mechanic in games - I don't think they should be a compulsory thing for every title, but Pacific Drive is the type of game which suits the kind of more playful ' I didnt know I could do that!' style ones - super fun to make!

Rubriical tend to camouflage and stay out of sight from prey or predator alike--but an irritated mother would rather intimidate and chase away threats to her vulnerable nymphs.
