Would you like me to come to your event to talk about this very peculiar incident? (I would keep it shorter than this, but I'm keen for discussion!) Contact details in bio...

The Dodleston Messages A pragmatic examination of the Dodleston Messages as told in The Vertical Plane

...intelligence, and more! It was a pleasure to chat with Cinzia, and she brings a unique perspective and academic rigor to researching and investigating the events of the mid 1980s (and also 1500s, and possibly 2100s) described in The Vertical Plane.
Check it out!

Digging into the Dodleston Messages with Dr. Cinzia Yates Podcast Episode Β· The AP Strange Show Β· March 1 Β· 2h 17m

This week's episode of The AP Strange Show is a doozy as Dr. Cinzia Yates of @dodlestonresearch.bsky.social and I dig into one of the most puzzling cases of weirdness out there- mysterious time-traveling messages, poltergeist activity, possible non-human...

I really enjoyed chatting to AP about Dodleston and all the weirdness it involves... be sure to have a listen when it is out as I go into not only the tale itself, but also my research methods and questions...

We tried this... with one of the most reputed translators of the Mabinogi. But when we tried, while London was switching to 4G, 90% of Wales struggled with 2G. Wales needs equal connectivity with England before we can do cool tech stuff. (Bannau Brecheniog still has black spots!)

Was Lukas Really Trinder? While I’m getting my personal circumstances sorted so I can get onto the more methodical and detailed research, I have found myself asking who could have perpetrated this hoax? I’m not saying I wat…

Another slightly manic, but relatively comprehensive blog post from me… this time on why I’m currently looking at Peter Trinder in more detail…

If you want NHM but without the 'educational' over curated bollocks, head for the Horniman museum with bonus bad taxidermy!

Crikey, setting up Ko-Fi is a massive faff isn’t it? Rather than a form to put everything in, they send you emails with individual questions! I can’t imagine anyone would tip me… just seemed worth a punt to cover some research expenses!

Having another go at sharing this as I confused myself last time and just want to see if it works…

If you’d like to tip me for my work at any point to help toward research expenses you can buy me a coffee at Ko-Fi:

Its not easy! Voirrey is particularly tricky, but I can explain Moddey Dhoo at some point.

Been doing a bit of website maintenance (well, trying to figure out WordPress which seems to have hidden all the vaguely useful features) and have popped in a link for Ko-Fi if you want to chuck me a tip to put towards books and research expenses.

Having a listen now... and as I'm Manx its interesting to hear the discussion! I'll let you off for the pronunciation, and the film is appalling! But Gayle sure knows her stuff...

But Gef was shot in the late 1930s...

I think she is Miss, not Ms. I intend to follow in the footsteps of many great women who maintained the use of Miss into their dotage (when I can't use my Dr. of course!)

Could this be the source of the mothman sightings? Same time and weremoths aren't exactly common...

Magpies work in pairs - if you see one, they are the lookout and the other is doing something that is often terrible (like eating the eyes out of a lamb!) If you see them both, the there is no trouble. I always assumed this was the reason for the song...

If it was well hidden, in such a way as to hide it from anyone until we came along, and has not been found so far, it has likely been hidden so well that it will never be found. 500 years is a very, very long time.

an anonymous commoner (he was in hiding so who knows what name he was using) in latin that is evidently about nonsense (before the 1980s the computer he spoke to Ken on would have been assumed fantasy) could have been destroyed for any number of reasons at any point in time.

on wax cylinders was destroyed when someone found a load of wax things in a box and used them as firelighters. I had to search through the BL Welsh MSSs for Manx ones because before 1970 they didn't realise Manx and Welsh were different languages.

And so, a Tudor MSS of no publishable value, by

Many people binned old stuff they found the same way we do now. If you moved into a new house and found a fifty year old hand written book that was clearly nonsense it would likely be chucked out. I worked with 19c MSS, some of which ended in a fire in the 1960s. Our national sound archive

We think of manuscripts as precious objects, and something created 500 years ago would indeed be precious. However, we have to consider how that artefact may have been valued between then and now. 500 years ago there were manuscripts everywhere. And many of them held no value at that time.

I am aware that others are searching for the manuscript produced by Tomas and left in Oxford in 1548ish. I am not.

While it would be great if it was found, my experience with MSS material suggests that if it did exist it is unlikely to have survived. Its not a good use of resources.

To assess oral history you first examine any easily verifiable aspects - 'it was a dark and stormy night' can be verified by checking the weather on that day. There is no point chasing the impossible without first confirming the possible.

Finding simple corroborating evidence is not an accusation of falsehood, but working from the assumption of falsehood can lead to finding corroborating evidence that it is true!

Right now I am looking for records of interaction with external bodies. Brasenose, SPR, even the military.

Encountering a lot of snippiness about trying to find records that would prove TVP isn't a work of fiction. I only have anecdotes and a book to work from and the claims are scientifically impossible. Any investigation has to include skepticism when there are so few sources.

Tomas is the chap speaking to them from the 1540s. Tomas Howarden. Although he has taken the name Lukas Wainman to evade the authorities. He took the name from the real Lukas Wainman who taught Tomas to read and paid for him to go to Oxford. Confusing...

Right... but that raises more questions. Do we bring them out? From where? Like opening and app? What about specific humans triggers their appearance? And if they're not in our time/space how do they speak in ways we understand?

So many questions!
