This is the first depiction of the 'Roman Salute'. Jacques-Louis David's Oath of the Horatii (1784). Depicts a Roman myth, but it's a French painting. There is no evidence for it ever being used in Ancient Rome. Anyone with half a braincell can see that Musk wasn't referencing this painting.

It was not a "Roman" salute, because there was no such thing in Rome. Sure, it's "Roman" as in Mussolini, but it sure as hell ain't "Roman" as in Julius Caesar. There's a certain word to describe Mussolini. Fascist. Elon Musk gave a fascist salute at the inauguration of the POTUS.
