All of a sudden, she felt as if her stays had been drawn too tight, that she could not pull in enough breath. Her panicked pulse fluttered at the base of her throat and for a moment she saw herself fleeing across the open field, heading for the anonymity of Inverness or another town, where no one knew her, or her secrets. She would be beholden to no one. She could do it: travel farther north, maybe even set sail for the islands, wait out the uprising somewhere safe. Then an image of Constance flashed into her mind, Constance tired and worn down from trying to carry the whole village, Constance making the scarecrow dance with her in the yard, Constance laughing, her eyes sparkling with life and mischief. I can do what is needful.

It's #BookQW and the word is open! In Daughters of Nicnevin, Mairead panics when asked to tie herself magically to the village she is trying to help.
