I am so thankful for the gift of this recognition on behalf of myself and all of the crew on Avengers Academy. We strove week after week to make art worthy of our community – to deepen and enrich the world for queer, trans, and HIV+ representation and readership, to insist we belonged in these worlds of fiction and in the world that dreams them. We wanted both to illuminate queer stories told long ago and to trailblaze new paths forward. It was not always easy, but it was always worth it. I am so proud of this work, and so honoured to have it so celebrated. Thank you. Thank you to all the impossibly gifted collaborators on this project for all your brilliance, enthusiasm, and generosity: our regular artists Carola Borelli, Bailie Rosenlund, and Pablo Collar; our colorists KJ Diaz and Ruth Redmond; our letterists Ariana Maher and Joe Caramagna; as well as our numerous guest talents – who enriched this book week after week with their gifts and perspectives. Thanks too to our editors, Lindsey Cohick, Sidney Stubbs, Wil Moss, and founding editor and Sarah Brunstad who willed this book into life. Time and again this book redefined what could happen, how it could look and read, and above all who could be in a superhero comic, and I could not be prouder. This category is full of the fellow artists who showed me there was a place for us to create and to live in this world, and I live in the enduring blessing of their work. #27 Furtastic (Catastic 7/8) 1: FETTUCCINE and GRIFFINA get matching cat nail caps. DOOM’s gauntlets are in the panel as he tries to carefully apply a cap to GRIFFINA’s sharp claws. 2: GIBRALTAR hands a posie to ALICIA–who has also been turned into a cat! 3: MARY-JANE says they’ve hit a jackpot in TYGER who needs cat-sitting, and the owner paid up front! PETER the French waiter looks at TYGER, who is making pleading eyes, skeptically. 4: GUNTHER the tiger grumbles a bit as GRIFFINA cheerfully sits atop his head. FETTUCCINE nuzzles her from the side, as he has stretched over DOOM’s shoulders like a scarf. TYGER smiles as he faces GUNTHER, the real tiger. GIBRALTAR blushes a lil as ALICIA wears the posie in her fur. DOOM looks pleased as he overlooks a scroll with a heart pierced by an arrow.

My Darling Doomcat #27: Yes, Boris, Doom’s schemes are a success! …to destroy them? Bah! The Catastic Four play dates have gone well. That is all that matters, for now.

In the corner is a paper with FETTUCCINE’s paw print on it in ink. On the shelf is DOOM's mech cat ears 3: FETTUCCINE further stretches into the bathroom, where DOOM wearing only his mask scrubs FETTUCCINE as they take a bath. In the tub is a DOOM rubber ducky and a FANTASTICAR with a soap bar in it 4: FETTUCCINE finally stretches into the bedroom where he lays on top of DOOM as they sleep after a nice day @doomrichards 2-7-2026
