Of the many artist tributes out there, I think about this Akira piece by Alex Toth often.
Otomo feels like someone who is the exact antithesis of Toths philosophy; pure hyper-maximimalism over stripped-down gestural brevity.
I can't help but wonder what Toth thought of Akira.

Amazing to think these are regarded as "lesser" Giraud albums, in any other hands (mine!) you'd be happy to retire after drawing this well.

They were generally drawn as two landscape pages that ran as Sunday strips, that then becomes a full page which explains the sheer depth of the details
And I second the Nez Casse love, the first album I had which I have returned to constantly for over 40 years
