-first, teachers are paid significantly less than other professionalized workers with high education requirements

They need a tiny army of bigoted “mommies” engaged because they know the majority of actual families reject their anti-democratic project and authoritarian aggression. And they’re willing to hurt children- as this ruling will surely hurt queer and trans kids- to enforce their bankrupt worldview.

Obviously not, but this court does not care. They issued this ruling on an emergency basis because they know the administration’s support is collapsing in real time. The radical majority and their financial backers are desperate to enact their goals, and punish their enemies as quickly as possible.

“Protect kids” they say as parents are kidnapped off the streets and children detained in concentration camps or families separated and sent to countries they have no connection to.

“Protect families” they say as their HHS secretary destroys public health programs which have lead to thousands of measles cases, including the deaths of some and lifelong health complications for other children.

“Protect girls in sports” they tell them at the same time the party they influenced to support and vote for is hiding files that could implicate the president and much of his admin in serious crimes against children and others.

Cases like Mirabelli, and multple cases re: trans kids in sports, cases like Chino Valley’s ongoing attempt to impose forced outing policies— are at the same time a direct attack on civil rights broadly AND a tactic designed to give their followers the feeling of being part of a righteous battle.

Establishment dems legitimized anti-trans efforts(@gavinnewsom.bsky.social looking at you!) and opened the door for dark money funded groups with names like “democrats for an informed approach to gender” to continue to muddy the waters and manipulate media and public perception.

They failed to see that trans people were being scapegoated in order to cynically appeal to voters the right had terrified and radicalized with false and overblown narratives. Duped by a right wing messaging effort they played to a nonexistent “centrist” position rather than defending civil rights.

And here is where dems failed— rather than taking a principled stance on civil rights for all, they relied on consultants disconnected from real people and plugged into what had become an echo chamber shaped by the influence of ideologues and reactionary operatives.

This is where things really took off— in large part bc legacy media like the NYTimes and Atlantic (many of whose editors and staff were in a signal group chat w/ reactionary operatives linked to right wing orgs/efforts) laundered anti-trans rhetoric for a more liberal audience.

Finally, the right landed on trans kids as the ultimate manifestation of the supposed all-encompassing coercive power of public school teachers (and their unions) and threat to so-called traditional families (a long-time anti-lgbtq buzzword for the right).
