OTI’s Assistant Commissioner Alex Foard said that the Office looks forward to using the Fellows’ framework as the basis for its new computer vision policies.

💡Fellows Blair Palmer and Julia Lane's new policy project proposes a tiered framework for governing this “computer vision” tech. Their suggested guidelines for NYC’s Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) provide differing standards of oversight based on each tool’s risks.

🔎 With NYC agencies using cameras and sensors throughout the city, our 2025 Science & Technology Policy Fellows are helping the city proactively safeguard against privacy risks.

💻 The framework helps unify city agencies’ protocols under NYC’s AI Principles, setting an example of how to balance safety and innovation.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏽 2025 Science & Technology Policy Fellows Hande Guven and Jessica Wang worked together to recommend that the NYC OTI update its AI Action Plan on how to responsibly use generative AI to better serve New Yorkers.
