Great read!
Explains why Jackson has been put in a "position to do whatever she could to ensure that the underlying question (must the USDA fully fund SNAP for November?) is resolved as quickly as possibleβeven if that first means pausing Judge McConnellβs rulings for a couple of days."

New York Times headline from December 13,2000: "Bush Prevails: By Single Vote, Justices End Recount, Blocking Gore After 5-Week Struggle"
25 years ago today: the most consequential presidential election of my lifetime. 36 days later, it was effectively decided by the Supreme Court. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who voted with the majority, would later she regretted that the court accepted the case.

The 60 vote threshold has existed for decades & there's a standard playbook for majority parties to deal with it: buy off a few minority party Senators. But this time around Senate GOP decided to go with a strategy of "Fuck you, vote yes anyway " and feign shock that it's not working
I find the questioning about his travel and politics more than a little disturbing.

Seems like our civilization is going to keep repeating the same mistakes until we insist on *universal* human rights.

My take away is that red states have already packed a lot of Dems into a small number of districts. Blue states can do a lot more squeezing if they put their minds to it.

/3 I think this is likely strategy by Justice Jackson -- she likely believes this route (rather than the stay being considered by the whole court) results in the shortest stay. But few will listen to that because of reasons 1-3, and I can't really fault them.
08.11.2025 03:34 β π 1263 π 144 π¬ 30 π 8This is actually a pretty standard and unremarkable move, as evidenced by Justice Jackson issuing it.
But most people won't believe that for several good reasons.

Itβs worse than you think. This is his lawyer Rita Glavin who has been paid tens of millions of dollars to smear me and the other women who came forward. She has led his taxpayer funded litigation abuse of us all.
And here she is at the loser party with him.

In July, Trump and Republicans cut $1 trillion from Medicaid, kicking 15 million people off health care.
Now, theyβre refusing to extend ACA tax credits, meaning premiums could double or triple for 22 million Americans next year.
Democrats are fighting back to protect health care.
You are about to see harrowing footage of a father in Fitchburg, MA being brutalized by masked ICE agents while holding his terrified, crying baby.
The Trump admin and every ICE agent who terrorizes our communities must be held to account for their inhumane, illegal actions.
Some really lovely stuff today. Thank you :)
