Researchers in #archaeology have worked for many decades to analyze large numbers of #radiocarbon dates from sites across the world.
The P3K14C dataset developed by Darcy Bird and colleagues has aggregated and organized over a 166,000 of these dates. See […]

#Archaeology #DataReuse is in the air!
Here's another example of a paper, authored by James Newhard and colleagues, that cites and reuses shared #opendata: https://doi.org/10.3390/heritage8080298
Their paper reuses data from "The Eastern Korinthia Archaeological Survey" (Pettegrew et al 2021): […]

We just saw this paper by Néhémie Strupler that cites #opendata about surveys in #archaeology, including the "Pyla-Koutsopetria Archaeological Project I: Pedestrian Survey" that we published back in 2013.
It's a great example of reusing older data for new research!

We had a few hours of downtime today because we needed to fix a third-party user interface component that suddenly lost hosting.
The updates we made hopefully resolves the issue. Sorry for the interruption in service!

A quick update. We had a brief downtime because of some server-side software updates and new SSL certificate installation.
We're backup with lots of #opendata in #archaeology to use for research and learning!

It's mind boggling to consider that every archaeological site has such complexity. And we rarely have this level of access to the detailed documentation that describes these sites.
It will be a huge long-term challenge to effectively make (re)use of this detailed documentation too.

We just finished uploading scans of the forms used to document stratigraphic units (called "loci" at this site).
Each stratigraphic unit links to other stratigraphic units. All together, this adds up to a vast and complex history of deposition at this "tell" site […]
