I couldn’t agree more. If COVID taught me anything it was “don’t wait to find joy.”

It was probably *because* of those baseball cards that turned out to be worthless. The whole “don’t do what I diiiiiiid.”

I just looked that up and holy shit. I must have been subconsciously channeling that!

A comic-book-style scene of a heist gone wrong. A large alien covered in wearable tech stands at a futuristic ATM yelling at his gun-wielding partner who is yelling back. A future cop is approaching from the side of the building.

#fbf to this old piece for ECCC’s charity art book. I was feeling some real Fifth Element vibes with this alien hacker and human gunslinger. “A Simple Withdrawal.”

A cartoon of an ugly, bloated humanoid creature wearing sagging cargo shorts, hiking boots, and a t-shirt with a backwards American flag on the sleeve underneath a combat vest. The letters ICE on the vest are overlayed with a red Nazi SS symbol. In the creature’s hands is a shotgun that goes flaccid at the end. Beside him are the words “Let me in. And I’ll burn down your house.”

“America isn’t the way it is because Trump is President. Trump is President because America is the way it is.”
Do not lose hope. Things will change for the better if we stand up in the face of this authoritarian thuggery.

Getting a “draw this pose in your style” just in under the wire for December. Oh, and Happy New Year, of course! This has been…well, one for the history books, that’s for damn sure. Here’s to living while we can.

A pencil portrait of Rob Reiner.

He gave us so many great movies including my favorite of all time, The Princess Bride. And the end of his story was so tragic, I can’t even comprehend it.

Started sketching some faces from imagination, but then realized I needed to do some reference sketches because my mental library was LOW. To be continued!

What have I been up to? Oh, just making comics for @grimoakpress.bsky.social and their new Grimoire. This 10-page short will be available at ECCC (and on their website of course). I love making comics!

As my three-clawed hands transform back into humanoid paws, I’d like to revel in the enormous body of work I’ve just created (this x46).
Stay tuned here and at @mindforge_media_ltd for news about when the Kickstarter launches!
For now, though, I’ll be on the couch!

Generative Al is being marketed as a tool designed to reduce or eliminate the need for developed, cognitive skillsets. It uses the work of others to simulate human output, except that it lacks grasp of nuance, contains grievous errors, and ultimately serves the goal of human beings being neurologically weaker due to the promise of the machine being better equipped than the humans using it would ever exert the effort to be.

The people that use generative Al for art have no interest in being an artist; they simply want product to consume and forget about when the next piece of product goes by their eyes. The people that use generative Al to make music have no interest in being a musician; they simply want a machine to make them something to listen to until they get bored and want the machine to make some other disposable slop for them to pass the time with.

The people that use generative Al to write things for them have no interest in writing. The people that use generative Al to find factoids have no interest in actual facts. The people that use generative Al to socialize have no interest in actual socialization.

In every case, they've handed over the cognitive load of developing a necessary, creative human skillset to a machine that promises to ease the sweat equity cost of struggle. Using generative Al is like asking a machine to lift weights on your behalf and then calling yourself a bodybuilder when it's done with the reps. You build nothing in terms of muscle, you are not stronger, you are not faster, you are not in better shape.

You're just deluding yourself while experiencing a slow decline due to self-inflicted atrophy.

re: generative AI

I have finally fully and accurately explained my problem with how it’s marketed and used.

And now, you can use it, too.
