I was voting for Amber, who I felt like went above and beyond in how she demonstrated sportsmanship to her fellow competitors. Not just a hug and a walk away, which again, is just behavior that should be expected.

I… find this a little ridiculous tbh. Congratulating someone else for winning a competition you were never guaranteed to win is just expected from adults. “Selfless display of sportsmanship”, really? Amber and Alysa I would get, but this is really bare minimum.

Finally watched Rio’s short and he is going to be such a star. Can’t wait for he and Minkyu to mix things up in seniors. (And I really hope he’s successful in his quad axel quest)

Denis Krouglov 🇧🇪 I hate this version of Bad Romance so much. He’s got some fun character choreo but I just can’t get over that first minute and a half or so of vocals.

There’s a version of the Schindler’s List theme with lyrics? If ever a piece of music absolutely did not need lyrics to convey emotion it’s that one.

Vaclavik 🇸🇰 Not sure I’ve got the right flag there, it’s too small on my screen. Nice skate, but a dreary af song. Same vein as In This Shirt. Need these programs to go out of style asap because I lose focus immediately.

Jaekeun Lee 🇰🇷 Nice speed. It’s a shame there’s really no crowd at all for some of the really nice skates. Program definitely made me think of Jun, I wonder if they have the same choreographer, or if it’s the blousy shirt.

Yehor Kurtsev 🇺🇦 nice attack in that step sequence. All green except for the opening 3A, which I missed. I haven’t followed juniors closely this year, but there’s some very promising skaters coming up!

Ian Weiler 🇨🇭 What a great skate! Committed to the choreo, great expression. He’s one to watch.

Taiga Nishino 🇯🇵 Very fun program, worked hard to keep the energy up though the whole thing. Clean skate! I like Bublé but didn’t feel that cover so much,

Matias Lindfors 🇫🇮 Interstijf Slate. Music odd and atmospheric paired with some unconventional and varied choreo. I was prepared not to like it bitty weirdness did pull me in. Not sure what is going on with that costume.

Daiya Ebihara 🇯🇵 Just looks in a whole other class so far, with speed and confidence in his elements. Nice skate! Or that they look alike, but something about his posture and expressions make me think of a baby Yuzu.

Li 🇭🇰 I’m at the point where I find a classical piece refreshing lol. Love his jacket, and that combo was a beauty until the fall. Weird how this music sounds like an old recording? It has that kind of canned tone to it? Loved his choreo and poise in his movements. ⛸️

Smagulov 🇰🇿 Really rough skate for this poor kid, lots of red boxes and weird trips and falls. Wish the junior men would stay away from these generic contemporary love songs. They just don’t leave an impression or feel believable coming from teenagers. Nice flow and use of arms though.

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but 19 just feels too old for junior worlds. Feel like that should cap at 18.

Lucius Kazanecki 🇺🇸 I like his shirt. He has a lot of potential, but I hope he can learn to get a little more flow through his limbs, because those are the straightest stiffest arms ever. Super slow, but nice on the jumps and spins. ⛸️

February book stack had a bit of a romance theme, and once again it’s hard to pick a favorite. I find I more or less like everything finish, (if I don’t, I don’t finish). I think I’m going with Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer, with honorable mentions to pretty much everything else.

A patch of purple crocus has bloomed.

Spring has sprung in Utah, with nary a winter to be had.

(As a winter person this is a bummer. As a person who has to live here in the summer this is terrifying.)
