The current funding crisis is not an excuse not to think constructively about what lessons are there to be learnt. How the Sudan response adapts to the new reality may inform the larger future of the humanitarian sector.

Yet the response is constrained by access restrictions, funding cuts, and systemic challenges.

Today, 15 April 2025, marks the third year of war in Sudan.
The three years of conflict have created the world’s largest humanitarian crisis: over 30 million people need aid, 12 million have been displaced, and famine is looming.
