I’m so sad about Ian Marchant. I only met him once when we visited him in Presteigne, but he was so kind. And recently, despite being so ill, he left me friendly comments on my Substacks and kept us all updated with his declining health with so much humour and candour.

It's amazing how often I have cause to post this cartoon of mine. Two armchairs vulgarly roasting each other.

Adrian, aside from marvelling at how prolific you are (while maintaining quality), I cannot fathom how you remember all the different details and names across so many disparate series and worlds. Do you have an amazing world building bible tool, or is your brain just massive?

The end logic of this if you’re in the UK btw is DEFEND THE BBC.

Complain about it, protest bad coverage of course, but we won’t get another institution that makes safe, publicly funded, reliable, human-created, vetted content for kids if we let the BBC get destroyed.

You might be cool, but you'll never be as cool as Johnny Cash taking a break during his 1968 Folsom Prison concert.

We launch at 1PM, and I have checked that I've definitely gone through Kickstarter approval about 50 times in the last two days.

I’d given up long before that at the arrival of yet another beautiful woman with violet eyes who had breasts and fancied Rand. But my poor sister and brother in law, having soldiered on, couldn’t believe it when he went and died

This is the first year we haven’t had one fall down the chimney. Usually we have one or two down and we either have to give them to the animal bloke or pop them on a dormer window roof and hope for the best.

Having given a huge chunk of my childhood and early 20s to Robert Jordan riding his big Wheel of Time (before giving up in disgust) I always suspect these epic fantasy writers of having absolutely no plan at all. So β€œalways planned” sounds incredibly hopeful/naive to me

I’ve gone full circle on this. I went through the β€œFerris is evil” phase but I watched it again recently and I just thought Ferris was a little dickhead (sure), but a little dickhead who could see his best friend was suicidal and wanted to reach him

Idk. He’s like Pink in Dazed and Confused and those kids definitely exist. Everyone loves kids like Pink/Ferris because while their popular friends bully them, Pink and Ferris never do. The fact they don’t intervene to protect people seems not to matter.

We def had one like that at my school…

People (not) eating food in tv shows should be banned.

Finally catching up with last 2 seasons of The Bear. Loved the Tina episode, but when she’s crying in The Beef, all I could think about was her uneaten sandwich.

Eat the sandwich it’s getting cold!

Never mind that what about the sandwich?

This reminds me of an early (ie 20yrs ago) fake mag cover I saw online that was a women’s version of Nuts. The cover line was β€œooh look at his lovely arms”

It’s okay for life events to change you. Good and bad.

After cancer, concepts such as β€œbouncing back” after childbirth seemed even more ridiculous to me. Of course major events like that will change your body. As will living and the passage of time.

Personally I think the left will have a better future if it avoids inventing hate figures like "Janice" and engages with voters as complex, multi-layered individuals who never, ever fit stereotypes.

1. This is Piles Copse, the largest remaining fragment of high-ground temperate rainforest on Dartmoor. It’s a tiny speck of green in a dismal, human-made desert. Prepare yourselves for a story of breathtaking perversity, told in this thread. (There’s a one-page version at the bottom). 🧡
