that was Will Trent's title sequence inspired by The Thomas Crown Affair. an episode with 2 storylines: a breezy resort caper inspired by '60s heist movies with a touch of Out of Sight, & in the other - a character grappling with the death of her abusive mother. unfortunately just an incredible show

tried watching the music video for Extreme's Get the Funk Out and I was like, oh this kinda sucks. it's pure Ringo Lam magic that he makes it feel like the coolest song ever composed here.

it takes such big weird swings sometimes, I'm always surprised it's on ABC. and everyone's so lovable, which unfortunately probably makes it extra effective copaganda.

eternally it's probably Michael Mann movies and Twin Peaks, currently it's this

they assume Jim Carrey is always yelling and singing and barking like Ace Ventura

yeah the voice sounds no different compared to other interviews he's done - I think they really expect him to be operating at The Mask levels of intensity at all times

the eye color "change" is easily chalked up to lighting or color grading, and his demeanor/voice doesn't seem much different compared to his usual vibe during interviews. he's not always mugging and yelling like Ace Ventura.

I don't really want say anything at all about it, but it's also so completely, insidiously cuckoo that I feel compelled to do a PSA about blepharoplasty. and I was still shocked to receive a reply that was like "ok sure, BUT what about..."

just now finding out that there's a conspiracy theory they cloned Jim Carrey or that this is an impostor lmao. my guy aged, got a bleph and maybe some filler, who cares. grow up

damn - "Ikiru too long and boring" might actually be even more offensive than "Seven Samurai too long and boring."

01.03.2026 07:33 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

exactly, there are certain thoughts that are best kept to oneself imho. and "this Kurosawa masterpiece is boring" is somewhere at the top of the list

I muted them in an attempt to be a chiller person, but... it's really bothering me so I might still hit the big block button after all

"Of Kurosawa's films I have only seen "Rashomon", "High and Low" and Seven Samurai. I think "High and Low" is great, and "Rashomon" even better. But for all its hype, I found "Seven Samurai" to be very tedious and at least an hour too long."

"I love all 3 of those, but I do think Seven Samurai is a bit tedious and overly long. One of my favorites of his is Ikiru. It's more a of an intimate,"

This reminds me of that Frankie Boyle joke about how Americans not only come to your country and kill your people, they also come back twenty years later to make a movie about how killing your people made their soldiers sad.

"Production --
Cassavetes and Martin Scorsese came up with the idea for the film together in one night,[3] and Cassavetes then further developed it on his own, inspired by Arthur Penn's movie Mickey One, The Family Rico, and Elaine May's Mikey and Nicky.[4]

For a restaurant scene late in the film, Cassavetes invited a number of prominent Hollywood studio executives to play extras, but then deliberately removed all their faces from the final cut.[5] Cassell related a story of when he and Cassavetes were being robbed at gunpoint, but Cassavetes diffused the situation by offering the robber ice cream and a job in his new film (Bookie), which he accepted.[6]

David Bowie sat in on much of the shoot, and is visible in some club audience footage.[7] Cassavetes had a high opinion of Bowie as an actor and held his 1983 film Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, with co-star Ryuichi Sakamoto, as one of his favorite contemporary films.[7]"
