Tho, it comes down to model. For example the smaller A models of Audi probably aren't that expensive to maintain. And most reason as to why maintenance is expensive on newer cars could be down to the electrics. Mechanics have more work to do on newer cars than on Older ones.

German cars are pretty good performers and they have good engines. However, they aren't the most reliable and they require regular maintenance which most people outside Germany don't really do often. Even cheap used ones from Audi, BMW and Mercedes can be expensive to maintain.
