01.11.2025 22:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Awful. There's one for Pandora that's been on for the last few weeks which is Christmas-adjacent.
01.11.2025 21:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It was really tasty. The meat just fell off the bones. But actually the sourness of the tamarind cut through the richness.

Autumn is when I move into the season of stews, casseroles & other slow cooked dishes. Today is slow cooked oxtail with 5 spice & tamarind. Served with a potato & turnip mash, plus leafy greens from the garden.

01.11.2025 17:17 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Two very similar pieces of art using swirly mark making
A piece of art comprising of the upper torso of an army commander with lots of medals on their chest. Most of their head has been painted over and a moth collaged where their nose/mouth should be.
An elaborate painting using lots of bright colours and ocean motifs.
A collection of photographs including a bridge with "black lives matter" written on it, a Palestinian flag, a protest banner which says "mourn the dead and fight like hell for the living", and two men kissing.
Some more of the Turner Prize artwork. Can you work out which artist (from my previous post) created each one?
#culture #art #Bradford #TurnerPrize
Rene Matic works primarily with photography, sculpture and textiles. Their artwork questions identity, society and how we find belonging. They often work with flags, and this piece was inspired by the Capitol attack in January 2021.
Mohammed Sami uses metaphor and ambiguity to create paintings about memory and conflict. Their work is often created from fragmented or distorted memories evoking scenes that feel familiar yet unplaceable. This piece is entitled 'Hiroshima'.
Nnena Kalu makes large scale hanging sculptures and drawings. Her bold, abstract works use mark making, layering, varied materials, and scale. These hanging sculptures begin with a hoop, tube or structure that forms a base; around these she wraps, folds and knots streams of repurposed fabric, rope, tape, cling film, paper and VHS tape.
Zadie Xa creates installations that imagine alternative worlds but draws from her own Korean and Canadian background. Xa's presentation uses painting, the sounds of the sea, textiles and hanging shells to consider links between ocean life, generational grief, Korean shamanism and ghostly spirits. The floor is highly polished to enable the artwork to be reflected in it like the ocean.
Turner Prize @ Cartwright Hall. I've included one piece from each nominee, with more info about each artist and their work in the alt text. Which id your favourite?

The outside of Cartwright Hall
A painting of Bradford in the 18th century
A painting by local artist David Hockney of two people chatting on a pavement with some houses on the other side of the road
A painting by LS Lowry of an industrial landscape
A lovely afternoon at Cartwright Hall, which opened as an art gallery in 1904. Currently - as part of Bradford's city of culture celebrations - it is home to the nominees of the Turner Prize (see separate posts coming shortly).

A year of songs, day 305:
Oasis were never my favourite britpop band, though I acknowledge that they were very successful as proved by their sold-out tour this year. This track was their first number 1 in the UK, and was the last single to feature all 5 original members.

It's Halloween today, so I thought we should have a spooky/scary piece of music. This track comes from the 2019 American psychological horror film 'Us' and was composed by Michael Abels.

This track comes from English singer-songwriter Tom Odell's third studio album. Using the metaphor of a card game in a casino, it tells a story centred around themes of chance, love, deceit, and regret.
