My main reaction to the story is that suddenly it matters when white women are killed by a black dude, but it doesn't matter at all when they're being killed en masse by Russian airstrikes on civilian targets in Ukraine. Or murdered in their home by Trumpers. Or shot protecting their students.

Set aside Sen. Mike Lee's storm of lies and incitement here. Lee literally made jokes on Twitter about the fmr Speaker of the Minnesota state house being murdered in her home by a right wing extremist. Hard to imagine any more twisted and malicious person in public life.

You'd guess wrong. Russia is weak but also it's important to keep it from bullying or overwhelming weaker countries. A fraction of NATO could hold off Russia fairly easily, but it would still kill a lot of people and be a dangerous conflict between nuclear powers.
