Mushroom Hats - in shapes and designs of βshroomsβ I have known or want to know. The book Mushroom Color Atlas by Julie Beeler offers up a comprehensive study of mushrooms - their array of color and design found in nature. Each of my designs approximates an actual mushroom. Front left is a Hydnellum Suavelens in the βtoothβ family.
Dry needle felted Aureoboletus Mirabilis Mushroom hat.
Of the βtoothβ family, this dry-needle felted mushroom is a Hydnellum Suaveolens.

March Mushroom month!
Dry felting begins with fiber, colors chosen, fibers lined up!
The work begins with a special, barbed needle.
The work is done on a blovk of dense foam to protect fingers.
The fibers are poked and prodded until they adhere to dry felt making a picture, a mushroom or more!

watch for March Mushrooms
coming soon!
Dry needle felting is a bit like painting a picture with fiber. I use a special needle to work bits of fiber colors into a design to make colorful sunrise and sunset even in a cloudy day!

footnote - Felting is the mix of heat, moisture, agitation and fiber to make a thick, dense mat of felt. Fulling begins with knit yarn (or woven) and the same process. For both processes - fulling and felting, the finished product is felt.
