Our cheeky loan attempt for Emi Martinez earlier this window means a new gk is a priority. When Donnarumma is available I am curious to know why we’re saying we’re not pursuing a deal for him. If he rejected us, fair enough.

Yup, this squad need a lot of work. I do think it is better than bottom 5, but the problems are way deeper than just the football ability of the players.
It certianly won’t speed up the rebuild if we lose. Fingers crossed.

I don’t have a solution, don’t even want Ruben sacked. I just say that I fear a loss combined with maybe 17th will be hard to look past for the board. Need to trust Ruben and build a better squad.

No but it’s happened. I don’t want him sacked, just saying without a cup win I think it’s likely based on the league form. The league is where progress is shown, and hiding behind the cup run saying league results don’t matter for months does not sit right with me. A top half finish is more 1/2

I don’t say we should sack him. I say that I fear not winning the cup will get him sacked as 16th to 17th place in the league can’t be justified and that I wouldn’t be surprised if the board let Ruben go. It is not what I want though.

No, results are the only thing that matters in football. Can’t plan with winning a cup, and the difference between winning the final or losing it is pretty much everything. Not saying I want Ruben sacked, just what I fear will happen if we don’t win.

I agree it’s not ideal. Moyes lasted 8 months. This is FAR worse, so without a trophy and Europe to show for there is really nothing to defend this. I don’t say I want him sacked, I say that I fear the board will let him go with a loss in the final.

17 losses in the league. I know some of them was Erik’s but accepting that the league doesn’t matter for months because we put all our hopes on winning a cup does not sit right with me. Anything can happen in a cup.

Same. I don’t think they’ll buy players for this system in the summer if they are uncertain of his style, and it would be hard to blame them for letting him go. If we win the final we will at least have something to build on.

It’s not just this game though. This is our 7th straight league game without a win. We are poor against PL opposition and in the final we meet a PL team. Top half and no cup would be somewhat acceptable, if we lose there won’t be any excuses for this season.

I can’t wait for this season to end. If we somehow manage to win Europe we’ll get a clean slate with Champions League next season. Staying at the bottom of the table with no Europe doesn’t exactly scream a great fundament. Trust Ruben to turn things around with a few transfers and a pre-season 🤞🏻

Wouldn’t hurt to have had Elanga too given Amad is only one player and is out for months.

Wood was 32 (now 33) when Newcastle let him go though. They have Isak who is world class.

Elanga is still 22 and we let him go to get Antony.
