Yes exactly. I'm not sure the average A customer would lose much sleep over this as they get behind the wheel of their big Suburban or whatever.

Funny or depressing to see a cafe on the grounds of UBC offering to match tips with donations to SAVE THE OSTRICHES? I vote depressing.

In the Globe and Mail every Friday, Kerry Gold explains to you why we don't need to build more houses in Vancouver and then on the next page a couple explains to you why their 2500sq ft second home was too small.

If you range back to the HBC, you can say that Canada basically is (a nation derived from) a crown corporation. We should treasure them.

Canada nation built (and built and built and built) until the 1970s, then began the great dismantling. I'd pin it to Mulroney era when rails were ripped out across country & Chretien/Harris pulling out of housing funding/backstopping. Canada Post stuff is just another dismantling moment.

Labour divisions deepen over Gaza ceasefire stance Keir Starmer is coming under increasing pressure to call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

More should be made of the fact that Burnham was urging a ceasefire at the very moment in the autumn of 2023 that Starmer was mumbling his apologies for the illegal mass punishment of Gazans

This is a good statement, although you should be aware that the CIJA, whose event you attended, wrongly conflates criticism of Israel, a state currently carrying out a genocide in Gaza, with anti-Semitism.

It's depressing but not surprising to see Carney swayed by advocacy groups who wish to police protest at genocide out of Canada. It's bad for Canada and it is bad in the end also for the Jewish community they claim to represent.

there is an institutional persistence story to be written about why Cambridge is not only so bad at marketing and organizing itself in the digital age, but utterly indifferent. Its attitude to the books it publishes is like a fish spawning 50,000 fertilized eggs. A few will survive and reproduce.
