On this day in 1865, the Kentucky General Assembly refused to endorse an end to slavery in America. Kentucky did not officially ratify the Thirteenth Amendment until 1976.

In 1990, Jarvis was wrongfully convicted of manufacturing the weapon used in the 1985 murder of San Quentin guard Sergeant Howell Burchfield.

His appeal awaits action from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Oklahoma Emerges as Epicenter of Anti-Death Penalty Movement Oklahoma leads the nation in executions, but new bipartisan alliances are strengthening the movement to end capital punishment in the state.
