Our #LondonBlueChain team recently attended the Lambeth Climate Partnership at the Garden Museum for an evening celebrating climate and biodiversity action across the borough.

It was great to share the stage with other local organisations working hard for a greener Lambeth!

Rain, wind & mud didn’t stop the amazing team at Hawthorn Tree Primary School!

Staff & pupils worked with our #BostonAndBeyond team to line & plant their new wildlife pond.

Now they're watching for frogspawn & toadspawn as breeding season begins.

Our #LondonBlueChain team wrapped up sessions at Childeric Primary School

Years 4–6 learned about native reptiles & amphibians and how to be guardians of nature, finishing by sculpting their favourite species.

The team also received a powerful artwork from a Year 4 pupil on protecting our planet

Our #LondonBlueChain team swapped shovels for a lunchtime wander this week, heading into Lesnes Abbey Woods in Bexley to catch some February sunshine.

There’s a noticeable shift happening all around us right now. The woods are starting to wake up and the ponds are coming back to life too.

Our pond, created by people living with #dementia at our allotment HQ in #Somerset, is teeming with frogs again!

Neighbours love the natural slug control and the joy of seeing them thrive.

Why not create your own?

Our #LondonBlueChain team returned to Brockwell Greenhouses for a second workshop with Queer Minds London.

Inspired by our previous London TOAD project, the group began a community tapestry exploring their connection to London & nature, plus learned why ponds matter for people & wildlife.

Over 2 million toads have been helped across UK roads by #ToadsOnRoads volunteers since 1974.

In 2025 alone, 156,000+ toads were saved during migration. One night of patrolling can make a huge difference: www.froglife.org/tormap

Our #WildMemories groups for people living with #dementia in #Somerset have rounded off a season of natural fibre crafting sessions.

They’ve spun their own wool, processed fibres from flax grown on their allotment, & did felt making.

It has now been brought together by weaving some tapestries!

So much to look forward to in February!

Mild, wet nights bring amphibian migrations – & it’s time to sow veg seeds.

Growing organic boosts biodiversity, supports pollinators & lifts winter spirits.

At #WildTimes Clapham we’ve sown chillis & aubergines.

This lovely common frog was spotted doing a good impression of a common toad during a recent pond creation in Glasgow!

The sand makes for an impressive disguise.

Our #ScottishGreenPathways project’s first amphibian spot of the year. Have you spotted any amphibians yet?

Our #LondonBlueChain pond restoration season is wrapping up!

Despite months of cold and mud, the team achieved so much.

At The Allotment of Refuge in Honor Oak Park, they replaced the pond liner, added planting shelves, raised edges and created new habitats with dead hedges and logs.

Toads on Roads is one of Froglife’s most under-funded projects, yet it saves thousands of toads every year.

Donations help support volunteers, manage data and reduce wildlife road deaths.

Our #WildMemories groups for people living with #dementia in #Somerset have been processing and spinning fibres from flax that they have grown on their allotment.

It’s an ancient craft that was an important industry in the local area.

Thanks to #SewingTheSeedsFrome for the seeds and support!

A huge thank you to the volunteers who came out to our pond restoration workshops with Knowetop!

Phase 1 of the project went amazingly well and the pond has been partially opened up for wildlife for the season.

With amphibians on the move, Froglife’s #WildTimes group planted native pond plants in Streatham’s Rookery Gardens.

These plants shelter frogs, toads & newts, support aquatic life & pollinators, and keep ponds healthy.

A classic Ladybird illustration from 1958.

The slow-worm is actually a legless lizard, while frogs and toads depend on ponds for breeding.

Even then, the message was clear: these animals do good and should never be harmed.

DEFRA joined the #LondonBlueChain team at Roots4Life for a volunteering day in Greenwich.

With guidance from Froglife, they created two new ponds, tackled bullrush removal and even held an origami frog contest!

Congrats to DEFRA on their first ponds, and thanks to the brilliant Roots4Life team.

9–15th Feb brought reports of common frogs, toads & all 3 native newts. On one mild, drizzly night in Lambeth, toads marched pondward as newts shimmered in the shallows.

From a Ladybird book published in 1958.

Smooth and 'crested newts' begin life in water before moving onto land.

Clean ponds and connected habitats remain essential for their survival today — some things never change.
