I still canβt figure out whatβs lonelier:
-being a working mom of a baby (so no moms groups to attend etc)
Or
-trying to launch a book after years of not doing any author social media (so no connections, community, etc in the publishing world)

Iβm having a morning of wishing I could chat books instead of work, so throwing some of my favorite titles out here to see if anyone else loves them!

Yeah, the ever-elusive discords and slacks etc. but the tough thing about those, imho, is they categorize into groups. Published writers. On sub writers. Querying.
And that feels⦠isolating?

Iβm having the absolute hardest time finding a few good critique partners for romantic fantasy. I just want a fun group that writes in that genre and wants to both critique and chitchat about our books.
What am I doing wrong?

"It was too YA for me" - A review someone seriously wrote about a YOUNG ADULT NOVEL.
Adults, you are a guest in middle grade and young adult book spaces. If you can't remember and respect that, you shouldn't read books for these audiences at all. They aren't written for you, nor should they be.

I really really want to get a monthly critique group off the ground. Max of five members, probably fantasy genre. Read and add notes, meet once a month for a call.
Anyone interested?

Iβve always been told to watch my prose for dangling modifiers (Walking through the woods, the stars shone), β tell-heavyβ descriptions (rage erupted inside me), & adverb-heavy dialogue.
Lately, Iβm seeing books with those things getting rave reviews. Do readers care less about prose now?

Like, I spend way too much time considering the similarities and differences of the blended genres of historical romance and fantasy romance.
Where am I supposed to go with these thoughts???

Something I really miss from oooooold twitter is deep dives into topics, especially pop culture etc.
I do think culturally a lot of that has shifted to group chats and private DMs, but gosh I miss it.

I get that readers love the forced proximity vibes but I am so so tired of romantasy books having two people sit comfortably on one saddle for days.

A Slow Burn
An interview with Rebecca Barrow
"[Y]ou can never give the industry what it wants, because publishing does not know what it wants." (Rebecca Barrow) is definitely one of the most astute statements I've seen about publishing in years.
