05.08.2025 19:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Work meetings need a gong. I'm talking the full Gong Show treatment. Zoom work meetings *especially* need a gong. The challenge is keeping the mallet out of the hands of a bully or petty tyrant. Clearly the answer is to assign it by dice at the start of each meeting.
05.08.2025 18:54 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Here's a lovely photo of a plethora of hand-sewn fabric art creatures. There's a watermelon creature with a red face, eight black seed-like eyes, and a wide mouth with five sharp teeth. There's a white ghost trinket bag covered with purple embroidered flowers. She has a gray face, sparkly black eyes and a little frown. There's a strawberry creature with three bulbous green eyes. There's a watermelon ghost, and a black creature with sharp teeth wearing a bulbous eye earring. There's a large purple creature with many yellow eyes and an open mouth, with a little green creature popping her head out. All the creatures are sitting on green fur and there's a galaxy print fabric in the background.
Did you know that through my Patreon, you can sign up to receive a hand-sewn mystery creature from me every month? And as an added bonus, they probably won't devour your soul.

Infuriated by book "marketing" scammers who try to sound like they've read a book but clearly fed it into an AI slop factory for a summary. It's often a setup to a blackmail con (pay for "marketing" or we leave bad reviews), too, so there's nothing to do but delete them. Fuckers.

The left doesn't focus on how to get men laid bc that's not its job. It's like asking "how come the left isn't offering solutions to me not finding anything to watch on Netflix?" That's your life to handle.
Free advice: no one wants to fuck anyone who cries about how no one will fuck them.

#HorrorWritersChat Do y'all know @mcmanlypants.bsky.social ? When he's writing horror, it's disturbing, but still has these moments of light, levity, and love that glow all the brighter for the contrast. His newest is Children of Solitude, which I beta-read. So good.

Oh, gods, too many! Someone whose books I just LOVE LOVE LOVE: @kvjohansen.bsky.social. Beautiful flow and rhythm of words, magnificent characters, plots that keep me breathlessly reading, stories about the power of stories. I wish I could write like that!

...friendship is how queer people survive a world that hates us. Comrades who know firsthand some of what we have and still do experience, who can validate us, clasp arms, stand beside us on the barricades: that's how we make it to tomorrow. Friends are a kind of medicine.

Roderick Surrett, from my vampire series The Withrow Chronicles, would get along like a house on fire with Reginald Voth from CONTEMPORARY ANCESTORS. They would laugh a lot as they vied to outdo one another. Eventually Roderick would somehow genuinely frighten Reginald, though.

Hey hey! I'm Michael, I write queer cosmic & supernatural horror. The authorial portion of my obituary will include: "queer," "weird," and per a recent review, "too horny." I know that's four words. My obituary is going to be a *mess*, a minor counting error will be *trivial*.

FYI: Danny Boyle's 28 YEARS LATER has crossed a major milestone at the box office, which is great news for those who want to see the director finish his planned new trilogy.

24.07.2025 18:37 โ ๐ 267 ๐ 108 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 0Here's a lovely photo of Madeline. She's a purple fabric art ghost bag, with a greenish blue face and large sparkly black eyes. She has a wide zigzagging sort of grin. The top of her is a silver-colored metal coin purse clasp. There's green fur in the background of the pic. Around her are a green and yellow mushroom sculpture with one back eye, a pinecone with two googly eyes, a transparent skull, and a little knitted frog.
Here's another lovely pic of Madeline. Here, she's resting on my palm, and she's wearing a black, fabric art hat.
Here's a little peek inside the bag. The lining is a black cotton fabric featuring dancing skeletons. They seem jolly.
My newest creation is Madeline the fabric art ghost witch bag. I designed and hand-sewed her. Madeline often invites reanimated skeletons to dance inside her because this helps with her digestion of souls. Also, she feels happy that the skeletons are having fun.

23.07.2025 21:36 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Small town, every time: all those settings! All those tropes! All those character archetypes! Small towns seethe with secrets and petty intrigues, at a permanent simmer just waiting to be turned up to boil. I cannot resist small town horror.

OK, I did not know this was coming up next when I answered Question Two. I think in this case what happens next is that the child's parents arrive shortly after, ignoring me. They build a fire--a second one, superimposed--and go about setting up camp. I realize *I'm* the ghost.
#HorrorWritersChat
I *do* love a good scary kid. IRL, I'd stand up and start yelling for anyone missing a kid, but in a story there are so many ways this could go! How about I whisper back, "I'm not even supposed to be here." #HorrorWritersChat
23.07.2025 21:35 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Mine is definitely Black-Eyed Kids, who supposedly knock on the door, ask to come in to use the phone, and then kill those who invite them in. It's an absurd legend (who's left alive to tell the tale?) but I would love to use them in a story. They would be very, very evil.
#HorrorWritersChat
I love the 1950s vibe hitchhiker/necking teenagers one like the hooked hand or the lady in white alongside the road. It would be fun to change the setting around on one of those--put it far future. Or to flip it so the ghost/madman isn't the most dangerous thing after all. #HorrorWritersChat
