I should rephrase that, we don't ignore it, we acknowledge full well what happened, we just don't celebrate that part of the holiday.

In my house we completely ignore the whole pilgrim thing (we're literally half Native American by blood) and we make the holiday all about giving thanks to God for all we have. We still feast and make hand turkeys, but avoid anything even remotely historical.
