This is a vision from hell, unleashed by the US tonight.

It would be only fair to the reader to say frankly in advance that the attitude of any person toward this story will be distinctly influenced by his theories of the Negro race. If he believes that the Negro in America and in general is an average and ordinary human being, who under given environment develops like other human beings, then he will read this story and judge it by the facts adduced. If, however, he regards the Negro as a distinctly inferior creation, who can never successfully take part in modern civilization and whose emancipation and enfranchisement were gestures against nature, then he will need something more than the sort of facts that I have set down. But this latter person, I am not trying to convince. I am simply pointing out these two points of view, so obvious to Americans, and then without further ado, I am assuming the truth of the first. In fine, I am going to tell this story as though Negroes were ordinary human beings, realizing that this attitude will from the first seriously curtail my audience. W. E. BURGHARDT DU BOIS Atlanta, December, 1934
I'd forgotten how hard the preface to DuBois's "Black Reconstruction" (1934) went...and am saddened by how contemporary it still feels.

To them, it's not a red flag, it's proof of concept. They can't tell you that, though, because they know how that sounds.

07.03.2026 18:43 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Good point. And I’m not going to sit here and pretend I think Harris is a great politician or activist leader. But this “let’s find another way to kick her” shaming from people who I’m betting don’t know thing one about Jackson is just weak.

07.03.2026 18:28 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I am HIGHLY suspicious of a lot of “leftist” posting. I think people on this end of the spectrum are naive about how susceptible we are to disinformation/propaganda.

07.03.2026 18:23 — 👍 19 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Thank you. Why don’t people want to admit this? Our system of citizenship is broken. What we get instead is a neutered consumerism and people who can’t be bothered to jump out of the path of an oncoming train.
07.03.2026 18:22 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Yep. People are definitely crazy all on their own, but in this climate, you can’t take anything for granted.

07.03.2026 16:58 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It’s incomprehensible. And I’m not a Texan, but I really like Talarico! You have to wonder if there’s a troll campaign, because otherwise it’s just idiotic.

07.03.2026 16:31 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Because they had a chance to elect a good Black candidate. That’s it. I really like Talarico a lot — but Crockett was strong and her appeal was obvious.
