We are running a 6 week Samba drumming course over 6 Saturdays in January and February in Bishop Auckland. The course is suitable for absolute beginners and people with a little bit of experience that are thinking of joining our lively, fun, gigging band Runaway Samba.

Since 2014 Jack Drum Arts has trained over 200 young filmmakers, many of whom have gone on to study at university, gone on to take BFI Film Academy Specialist Courses, progressed to work placements and eventually gone on to work in the industry.

We visited the Knife Angel in Newton Aycliffe today. Standing before this 27 foot sculpture, made from around 100,000 surrendered knives, was deeply moving. A powerful reminder of the impact of knife crime & a striking testament to how art can be a force for change. #knifeangel

The sessions are part of our Feel Good Friday series of workshops designed to boost your mental wellbeing through feeding your creativity. This week is Creativity and Wellbeing Week so what better time to try something new?

As a teaser today we're letting you know that we're making Basbousa Bel Ashta which is a semolina cake with a sweet cream filling. We'll be announcing what's for main course tomorrow!

This week you can learn about Yemeni cuisine, help to make a meal alongside fellow group members under the guidance of our Yemeni chef Faten, and the best bit is that unlike a cookery book or a TV programme, you actually get to eat the delicious results!

Cook and Eat Yemeni Cuisine - a flyer that basically says what it says in the body of the skeets. The main differences are that the time of the session on Friday is 11am-3pm and there is a nice picture of a semolina cake.
