Repeating Benjamin Franklinβs claim that the greatest rogues were the richest rogues, a colleague added, Scripture requires that rulers hate covetousness. As citizens we should be wary of those in authority who covet power and money. They begin by taking it from the weakest. They never stop there.

What values hold true for you? Inform your thinking?
And how do we acknowledge that others hold differing views and values?
Can we commit to civil discourse and action? What does that require of us?
Our event for this evening is cancelled. Unfortunately, the Dekalb County State of Emergency remains in effect and Emory University is not open for normal operations today. We hope to reschedule this event for a later date.

Driven by faith, a sense of duty, and love of family, Jimmy Carter died as an exemplar for what a willingness to serve can accomplish, when one puts others above oneβs self.

13.01.2025 17:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Aristotle stated that one cannot say a person has led a good life until after the individualβs death. Today one unreservedly can say that about the late James Earl Carter Jr. In a life of challenges, defeats, and vicissitudes Carter rose above them.

It is with great gratitude & humility that CFE pauses to honor the late President Jimmy Carter, an individual who represented the highest standards of ethics & service. As VP Mondale stated βWe told the truth. We obeyed the law. We kept the peace.β May his memory and life be a legacy for the future.

16.12.2024 18:24 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Are there baseline, moral expectations for civic leaders as they exercise their offices? We have in mind moral excellences such as honesty or integrity (as opposed to hypocrisy). We care because behavior falling below the baseline weakens social ties and provides the young with negative role models.
