Comic title: They're Taking Art Lessons A two-panel, full color comic featuring Hornet and the Knight from Hollow Knight. In the first panel, Hornet curiously looks over the Knight's shoulder as they crouch over a piece of parchment, drawing. In the second panel, the Knight proudly shows Hornet their drawing, revealing it to be a simple illustration of themself and her, holding hands.

I've been drawing a lot of #HollowKnight and #Silksong art, and realized I should probably share them here as well. This is an old one (circa 2018), done for a Secret Santa event on Tumblr, but it still holds up.

Zorah didn't take on Dedede's power or anything he just decided "yeah i want to look like Dedede"

it does occasionally feel like Kirby tries really hard to like... "out-cool" itself just for the sake of it. Morpho Knight is like this to me too

doesn't help that this revelation is done in the THE most tropey and annoying way possible that is specifically like nails on a chalkboard to me. Glad it seems to only be a one-off thing so far

Anyway mini rant over. This phenomenon of trying to have to your cake and eat it too with regards to gender is far from unique to this story, it was just such a stark example to me. I'm also still not super far in the game, so my read on some of this stuff could be wrong

The thing is, the place Red's outburst is rooted in isn't his world, it's ours. The scene relies on the audience's expectations of gender to make sense. In a way, it's a fourth wall break - the rules and norms of the diegetic world are temporarily supplanted with that of real life for "humor"

So again, what is "ladylike" to Red? The setting doesn't inform the answer. The woman in question is somewhat stern and reserved, and nothing indicates that is a strange thing for a woman to be in this world

Gender doesn't seem to matter in a material way in the setting. If men and women have different societal roles, standards, and expectations placed on them, they're unstated. They both hold positions of authority and work in the same areas, so the world's structure doesn't reflect those things either

What does this guy think ladies should act like? I'm asking not because I'm incensed a character might have backwards attitudes on gender they have to work through as a character flaw, but because that attitude seems to have come from nowhere

Basically, there's an androgynous person who the main character, Red, initially thinks is a boy but is actually a girl. Upon learning this, he gets upset and asks her why she doesn't act more ladylike. And the reason this line keeps bouncing around my head is, like... What is he talking about?

It's such a small thing to get hung up on, but there's a scene early in the game that I just can't stop thinking about and I need to rant about it a little bit
